Saturday, 15 September 2018 at 11:30 AM to Saturday, 15 September 2018 at 2:00 PM
Organisers: Hayley Landreth, Sophie McKellar
Let's go and join The Vic Coastal Ecology Lab and Vic Rescue who are co-hosting a site at the Wellington South Beach Clean Up this year. It's going to be an awesome Wellington-wide event!
The tramping club crew will meet at Island Bay at 10:30 to help with the cleanup and then head to Lyall Bay for the BBQ at 12:30. If you would like to get there by public transport the number 1 bus goes from the city to island bay and the number 3 bus returns from Lyall Bay.
Wear comfortable and weather appropriate clothing!
See you there :)
Here is a note from the organisers:
This year is our 9th annual South Coast Clean Up!
As well as caring for our coasts and oceans....it's all about community!
We invite you, members of the public, schools, businesses, local groups and organisations to join us, along with hundreds of thousands of volunteers around the world, to take part in the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Clean-up week.
We are all volunteers from Wellington who love our south coast. We are keen to keep it free of waste, help preserve it's natural beauty and to look after our oceans and the wildlife that lives there.
We'll be clearing rubbish from the whole coastline from Owhiro Bay through to Breaker Bay. Everyone is welcome .....if you are more than 6 people please contact southcoastcare@gmail.com, or 021 1502879, and we'll see where your group would be the most help.
As usual, there will be prizes for pictures of the most interesting rubbish find! So, keep an eye out!
All rubbish will be gathered up around 12.00 and taken to Lyall Bay to form one large pile. At 12.30 there will be a sausage sizzle (including vegetarian) near the playground area where participants can mingle and meet each other...share stories and celebrate our collective achievement.
