We have been given the use of the wonderful Tararua Tramping Club ski lodge at Whakapapa, on Ruapehu. This is one of the nicer lodges at the village, about a 30 minute walk from the road, with the possibility to Ski into the back door, and out of the front door.
This trip will be Sunday - Saturday, for six nights during the Second week the mid-trimester break of trimester two. People are welcome to only come for a section of this time but will have to sort out their own transport.
Skiis can be hired from about $30/ day, or an old set of straight skiis and boot can usually be acquired from a tip shop for about $15.
People who are not interested in skiing are welcome along but are advised to bring an Ice axe and crampons. Various options for walking or climbing may be possible, as well as boardgames, jigsaws and reading.
Cost for the lodge is at TTC rates: Under 25's $25 per night, Over 25 $35 per night.
This trip is a wonderfull time, but also it it alot to organise. If people could signe up as early as possible that would be outstanding!
The total cost of food, transport and acomidation for the week should be about $250 for thows aged 24 and below, and $300 for thows 25 and up. This might change a little, mostly depended on how transport works out.
VUWSSC members do not have to join VUWTC to be involved with this thrip (although like, you obviously should should for other reasons.)
