During AIC II the idea came up for a trip to Cathedral Rocks at Ruapehu. The current plan is to drive up to Ruapehu on Friday, walk to Whangaehu Hut and spend Saturday and Sunday climbing Cathedral Rocks and wander around the plateau.
You should be comfortable using crampons and iceaxes on fairly steep terrain and have some background in belaying etc. Ridged or semi-ridged boots are prity important if you are fround pointing, so people will need to bring boots as least as ridged as an asolo to partisipate.
You will also need warm and windproof clothing, and idealy gloves wich alow you some dexterity. Gaiters and overtrousers are also great if you dont want to be cold and miserable.
In addition to that check out the quick gear list.
Transport costs depend on the amount of cars to our disposal. The Hut itself cost 20 / 10 Dollars, depending if you are a NZAC member or not.
If you are interested please sign up as soon as possible, it makes our lives much easier.
